Upon reading the article in The Telegraph, dated 25March 2015: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/11494624/Fake-professor-jailed-after-setting-her-students-series-of-bizarre-homework-tasks.html , Court hears fraudster Jacqueline Crane, 52, of St Austell, Cornwall, pretended to be a professor of psychology when she told her students to scale trees, cycle in bad weather, and take candlelit baths. The fraudster, Jacqueline Crane pretended to be a professor of psychology with no qualifications and instead she accredited to train people to become counselors with a bogus counseling course that she was running. Crane’s students who spent thousands of pounds on the course became suspicious due to her increasingly strange ideas and bad spelling. Crane tried to maintain her web of deceit by inventing a fake family photo and even forged doctor notes claiming that she was too ill to attend court, but justice caught up with her when the 52-year-old fantasist was discovered by a group of students that she had used old exam papers to test them. Following the case, two of Crane’s students spoke about the damage caused after being hooked by Crane’s lies. Judge Simon Carr said: “The money they have saved up to improve their education has been completely wasted.” Crane admitted fraud by making a false representation that a course she was running would lead to a qualification between June, 1, 2012 and November, 5, 2013. Jacqueline Crane was jailed for 18 months at Truro Crown court (T20140102) after pleading guilty to fraud by making a false representation, perverting the course of justice and benefit fraud.
